BRIAN YOUNG

Brian formed Flaca Productions in 2001 after nearly 15 years of developing his skills as a news photographer and editor. His work is of the highest national network caliber and he has extensive, global experience. Using his flexibility and ingenuity as well as his diverse technical, editorial and logistical skills, Brian owns and operates the Sony

PDW-F800 HD XDCAM and the Sony PMW-F5 (both set up, matched and maintained by Roger Macie) in order to produce a final product of the highest quality.


WORK EXPERIENCE

After five years as a CNN Senior Photographer based in Atlanta, Brian moved into the freelance world to work with a diverse and growing list of clients such as 60 Minutes, 48 Hours, Fox News Channel, NBC (Nightly News, Today), ESPN, the U.S. Department of State, Discovery Channel, ABC (World News, Nightline, Good Morning America, 20/20), NFL Films and National Geographic. 


During three extended trips to Afghanistan for the State Department, Brian shot and edited two short documentaries which chronicle the beginning of the country’s transition to democracy, and have been broadcast world-wide.  Other assignments have included nearly five months in Pakistan with Fox News Channel right after 9/11 and three weeks as part of a two-man team in the extreme southern Philippines using mini-DV cameras, Final Cut Pro and videophones.  Brian is highly experienced in location shoots, dramatic re-creations, magazine-style interviews and providing spot news coverage for the major broadcast outlets in both Europe and the US.


While at CNN from 1996 to 2001, Brian shot a wide variety of general and breaking news, sports and feature stories for use by all CNN networks, traveling both domestically and internationally for nearly 300 days each year.  He was the primary CNN photographer on the 2000 George W. Bush Presidential Campaign providing daily coverage, live shots, features, interviews and remotes for nearly 15 solid months.  Some other extended assignments include the Balkans (Albania and Yugoslavia) covering the war and refugee crisis in 1999, in Baghdad, Iraq covering United Nations weapons inspections of 1998, the London funeral of Princess Diana, 1997s Oklahoma City Bombing trials in Denver, as well as a six week assignment comprised of general news coverage in Havana, Cuba during the establishment of the CNN bureau there.  Brian has also covered multiple Space Shuttle launches, many, many hurricanes, Indycar and NASCAR, Major League Baseball, NFL, NBA and NCAA sporting events.


After graduating in 1989 with a degree in Communications from the University of Northern Iowa, Brian learned

the television business as a Staff Photographer in Denver (KCNC), Tampa Bay (WFLA and WTOG), and Cedar

Rapids, Iowa (KCRG).
